Glynne Spilsbury LLB (Hons)
Solicitor - Practicing Consultant (SRA: 135709)
He has criminal litigation experience going back to 1973. Since the establishment of G Spilsbury & Co in 1988, he has had control of matters of the utmost seriousness - including murder, attempted murder and all types of assault allegations. He has also handled serious drug offences and proceeds of criminal applications, all forms of public disorder matters including riot and violent disorder, blackmail and serious allegations of dishonesty.
Working closely with barristers in the Crown Court in whom there can be complete confidence, there is no aspect of criminal litigation that cannot be undertaken. Legal Aid is available, where appropriate. Where private work is undertaken, cost estimates will be provided and flexibility achieved.
He also undertakes family law matters involving contact with children and divorce on a private basis as well as undertaking probate (including contentious probate matters) and estate work on a private basis.
Stephen Samuel LLB (Hons)
Solicitor - Director (SRA: 35512)
Stephen was born in the Cynon Valley and continues to live locally on a small holding in Llwydcoed. Attended St John Baptist Church in Wales High School Aberdare. He went on to obtain his Degree in Swansea a 2 (i) Hons LLB. Undertook his LPC in Cardiff University. Almost immediately upon qualifying as a Solicitor he undertook his Police Station Accreditation Course and became a Magistrates Court Duty Solicitor. Gaining vital experience in the local Magistrates and Crown Courts, undertaking a wide variety of cases including serious offences as Murder Allegations.
After gaining over 10 years of experience and developing his Personal Injury Practice for many years he gave up the Criminal Litigation in favour of Claimant Personal Injury work. Joining APIL as a Senior Member for which he is a regular Course Attendee and Adviser/Debater on the APIL forum. He has extensive experience on "no win fee basis" undertaking RTA claims, Accidents at work or Public Liability Claims. This includes Accidents involving Horses, Accident Abroad, Trips and Slips (including in supermarkets) and Medical Negligence Claims. Including Professional Negligence Claims against Solicitors where claims Lawyers have under settled their PI case.
He has now been an admitted Solicitor for approximately 25 years. Stephen prides himself on straight forward honest advice. This year alone he has succeeded in recovered over a million pounds in a Brain Injury RTA case.
His Civil Litigation naturally grew the same time. Examples of his expertise include Debt Recovery, Boundary disputes, Probate Disputes, Contract Breaches, Building work issues, Landlord and Tenant issues and Evictions, Housing share disputes/splits and the enforcement side of the files. Also, High Court Enforcement where necessary, attachment of earnings, bailiffs, charging order and final charges where necessary and thereafter applications for sale of the property to recover their debt owed.
With extensive experience in Conveyancing both Residential and Commercial, including Leases. Stephen supported his wife in opening an Estate Agency ‘T Samuel Estate Agents’, with Stephen helping enormously in the early stages to establish the business quickly within the same town. Stephen wanted to undertake the complete house buying and selling experience under one roof, to make the transition where possible, less stressful, and more efficient for the individual concerned. His vision extended into establishing the Lettings side of the business to support Landlords.
Stephen is an Ambassador for Abercynon RFC.
He has two girls and a son. His personal hobbies include five a side, mountain biking with his close friends and attending the Pony Club with his youngest daughter.
Damian Jones LLB (Hons)
Solicitor - Director (SRA: 275767)
Damian Jones has lived in Cwmaman all his life. Studied Law in Swansea then undertook his legal practice course at Treforest. He has always worked emphatically in Criminal Law. Becoming a Duty Solicitor in the early years of practice. Dealing in all Criminal Defence work, both legally aided and private paying basis. Damian works closely with several Barristers with whom he has close ties, having built a relationship up over many years. He undertakes work in the Magistrates and Crown Court.
He also undertakes Wills, Probate, Court of Protection and Power of Attorney work which he enjoys. He attends the police station and is on call on a rota basis with other staff within the firm.
Damian has over 20 years of experience as a practising Solicitor and is well known in the area with many clients from his hometown.
Kay Smith
Conveyancer
Kay was born in Aberdare and attended Blaengwawr Comprehensive school. She relocated to London in the early 80's and attended Redbridge College where she obtained a P.A. Certificate. She worked for a short time as a P.A for a firm of Civil Engineers. Kay's career in law started in 1988 when she returned to her hometown of Aberdare and at that time she dealt mainly with matrimonial matters and children's proceedings.
1n 1990, Kay's area of speciality became Conveyancing which she continues to do to date. Kay has 30 years experience in the field of conveyancing and deals with Residential purchases and sales, New Build properties, Leasehold sales, and purchases, Commercial sales, Re-mortgages , Deeds of Gift, Transfer of Equity, to name but a few.
She has worked for a number of solicitors practices both in the Valleys, Cardiff and North Wales and is well known and respected throughout those areas.
Kay has a close working relationship with a number of local Estate Agents all of whom have no hesitation in referring their clients to her and who will concur that she is a diligent, hardworking honest person who has a no nonsense approach to her work. She is very approachable and will take time and care to put clients at ease during their time with her. She realises that property transactions can be a very stressful time in people's lives and will therefore explain the process in detail to the clients and update them regularly to help alleviate any further pressure being placed upon them
Kay is a native of Aberdare and is very well known in the town and surrounding villages and has a large circle of friends in the area.
Emma Smith
Conveyancer
Emma joined G Spilsbury & Co in 2002 and for 19 Years took on the role of Legal Secretary. Emma has extensive experience in dealing with matters related to PI, Matrimonial and Conveyancing. In July 2021 Emma has taken on the role of Conveyancer. Her work includes all types of Residential Conveyancing which includes New Build, Sales/Purchases of Freehold/Leasehold transactions. Acquisitions of Freehold reversion and Transfer of Equity.
Emma is a local girl from Mountain Ash and attended the local Comprehensive School. Emma has lots of friends and family in the community, therefore is well recognised and trusted in her role at G Spilsbury & Co.
Clare Campbell
Legal Secretary
Clare started working as a legal secretary in 1982 when she joined the firm of Marchant Harries where she stayed until May 2021 when she joined the conveyancing team at G Spilsbury & Co.
Clare brings with her over 40 years of experience in the legal sector and works closely with the conveyancing team.
Andrea Rosser
Legal Secretary
Andrea has worked with G Spilsbury & Co as a legal secretary from it's early beginnings and has 35 years of experience in legal work. She has a wealth of experience and works closely with the probate, family law and crime team. She has an eye for detail and a drive for excellence. Andrea's lives locally and has a daughter and grandson.
Bethany Conway
Legal Secretary
Bethany is a local girl from Mountain Ash. Has many years of experience in conveyancing and probate. She is hard working and ambitious.
Heather Lewis
Legal Secretary
Heather was born in Aberdare and attended Blaengwawr Comprehensive School. She began work as a legal secretary at Gwilym Jones & Davies Solicitors in 1994. Over the past 27 years she’s had the opportunity to work alongside a number of local solicitors, gaining experience in all areas of law. In 2006 she achieved a Level 3 Diploma in Law via the Institute of Legal Executives which helped her gain a further detailed understanding of law and legal practice.
Heather joined G. Spilsbury & Co in June 2021 where she works alongside the conveyancing team. Heather helps provide support to the fee earners by answering general enquiries, drafting legal documentation and submitting the necessary applications to ensure a smooth, efficient service for all our clients.
Sian Francis
Legal Secretary
Sian started with the conveyancing team in 2021. She has 35 years of experience in legal work. Specialising in conveyancing work and having lived in Mountain Ash all her life, knows many of the clients personally. Sian lives with her husband and twin daughters.
Andrea Rees
Receptionist
Recently started with G Spilsbury & Co.
Born in Merthyr Tydfil but has lived the majority of her life in Aberdare.
Most of her working years have consisted of Receptionist duties.
She has a friendly and approachable attitude and if not sure of the answer to a question, will endeavor to find out.
Claire Watts
Legal Secretary
Claire was born in Mountain Ash and attended Mountain Ash Comprehensive School. She began working at Gwilym Jones & Davies Solicitors at the age of 16 and then moved onto Hugh James Solicitors. She has worked in solicitors offices for many years covering all departments and aspects of law. Claire had a break from working in a solicitors where she ran her own florist business in Mountain Ash for 12 years so she is a very familiar face within the community. Claire joined Spilsbury Law Limited in March 2023 and she works alongside Bethany Conway as a legal secretary to Mr. Steven Samuel.
Claire lives in Caegarw with her husband and teenage daughter.
Julie Prosser
Legal Accounts
Julie has been with G Spilsbury & Co for over 33 years, from its early beginnings. Her main role is in dealing with all aspects of the legal accounts. Also provides IT Support for the team. Studied British Sign Language for 3 year and has acted as an interpreter.
She has played a role in supporting Stephen's vision of providing a complete service when it comes to conveyancing, so works closely with T Samuel Estate Agents to support clients in a seamless journey when buying or selling.
Julie has lived in Mountain Ash all her life and has a daughter.
Lucyna Gabala
Legal Accounts Assistant
Lucyna was born in Poland and moved to Wales in 2007 to start a new life with her family. She quickly became proficient in Accounts and started her new career with G Spilsbury & Co in 2009.
Working closely with Julie in the Accounts Department Lucyna has enjoyed her role immensely. Lucyna speaks two languages, has a son and daughter and enjoys spending time with friends and family.
